Short answer: Call recording and real-time AI sales assist solve different problems. Recording (or conversation intelligence built on saved calls) helps you review later. A real-time assistant helps you during the call with on-screen suggestions. You might want both, one, or neither — depending on QA policy, coaching culture, and what your counsel says about consent. WhisprIQ does not make calls compliant.

The confusion in one table
| Idea | Buyer usually means | Typical outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Saved recording | Audio (and often video) file or archive you can replay | QA, disputes, training libraries, CI platforms |
| Conversation intelligence (post-call) | Transcribe + analyze after hang-up | Manager coaching, talk ratios, deal risk dashboards |
| Real-time AI sales assistant | Suggestions while the call is live | On-screen (or earpiece) prompts for the agent |
Balto’s public Jul 10, 2026 objection-handling guide (balto.ai) frames a similar split: Category 1 real-time agent assist vs Category 2 conversation intelligence that learns from past calls. That framing is useful even if you never buy Balto. Post-call tools can be excellent at pattern-finding. They do not put a rebuttal on your screen in the moment the prospect objects.
What WhisprIQ does (and does not) with audio
Aligned with the live Privacy Policy (effective October 20, 2026 — re-read if the page has changed):
Does
- Capture microphone + computer call audio during a call you start in the app (best with a Windows softphone / computer dialer)
- Convert speech to text and use that text (via WhisprIQ servers and our AI provider) for live on-screen suggestions and a post-call summary
- Keep call summaries and related outcome data for a limited period described in the policy (summaries up to 12 months, then archive/delete per that policy language)
Does not (product behavior)
- Speak to the person you are calling
- Join as a bot or third voice
- Auto-send email, SMS, or CRM updates
- Store call audio (per Privacy Policy: call audio is not stored)
- Keep a full live transcript after the call is processed (per Privacy Policy)
We will not say: “If audio isn’t saved, nothing sensitive happened,” “AI assist is never recording,” or “consent never applies to live suggestions.” Text is processed to create coaching. Treat that seriously with your company and counsel.
Softphone audio quality note
Real-time suggestions depend on clean audio into the Windows app. Softphones and computer dialers are the design target. Cellphone-only setups (Bluetooth handoff, desk phone only, etc.) are a poorer fit. See Softphone vs cellphone for AI sales assistants.
Consent still may apply — even without a red Record button
Many compliance conversations treat real-time transcription / AI monitoring with the same caution as classic call recording, especially in stricter “all-party” states. Whether every statute treats them identically is a lawyer question. Company policy, carrier rules, and industry rules (insurance, financial, healthcare-adjacent) can be stricter than the minimum statute.
Practical buyer checklist (not legal advice):
- Ask counsel what disclosure your opening script needs for AI listening / monitoring, not only for “this call may be recorded.”
- Align with your dialer vendor’s recording + AI features — turning WhisprIQ on does not configure your dialer’s Record switch.
- Re-read WhisprIQ’s Privacy Policy and your employer’s call-handling policy.
- Do not invent “WhisprIQ is compliant in all 50 states” language. We do not claim that.
Deeper consent primer: Is it legal to use AI on sales calls?.
Do you need both?
| Situation | Recording / CI | Real-time assist | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo phone agent who wants help on tough objections today | Optional | Often the primary need | Start with real-time; add recording only if policy requires |
| Manager culture built on call review playlists | Often yes | Optional add-on | Gong-class tools live here — see Gong vs real-time |
| Regulated floor with mandatory archive | Often required by policy | May still be allowed separately | Counsel + QA own the archive rules |
| You only wanted notes after hang-up | Meeting notetaker / CI may be enough | Not required | Different category than WhisprIQ |
You do not need a separate dialer “save WAV” workflow just to get WhisprIQ live suggestions — see Do you need to record calls?. You may still need recording for your company’s QA or legal hold. Those decisions are independent.
FAQ
If WhisprIQ doesn’t store audio, is that the same as “not recording” under the law?
Not something a product blog can answer for your state. “Not storing a WAV” ≠ automatic free pass. Ask counsel.
Can the customer hear WhisprIQ?
WhisprIQ never speaks to the customer. See Can the customer hear the AI?.
Is this the same as Gong?
No. Gong-class platforms emphasize post-call / revenue intelligence. WhisprIQ emphasizes live Windows softphone suggestions. Comparison: Gong vs real-time AI sales assistant.
